Help us spread awareness for Sarcoma

Today, we wanted to talk about Sarcoma and help spread awareness for this often misunderstood type of cancer that impacts around 500 people in the UK. Carry on reading to find out how you can get involved as a healthcare professional.

What is Sarcoma?

Sarcoma is a group of rare cancers that develop in the body's connective tissues, including bones, muscles, nerves, fat, blood vessels, and other soft tissues. It can occur at any age but is more prevalent in young adults and children. Because of its rarity and diverse forms, sarcoma is often misdiagnosed or diagnosed at a later stage, leading to challenges in treatment and survival rates. Increasing awareness about the disease is essential to promoting early detection and ensuring timely access to the appropriate medical care.

How can I help spread awareneness?

When it comes to fighting sarcoma, knowledge is power. By spreading awareness, we can break the silence surrounding this disease and drive positive change in several key areas:

1.Share symptoms

Timely detection is critical for effective treatment and improved outcomes. Raising awareness among the public and healthcare professionals can lead to earlier recognition of potential symptoms and prompt referrals for further evaluation. You can find a full list of symptoms on the NHS website.

2. Raise money for research

Increased awareness can generate more interest and support for sarcoma research. With greater funding, we can delve deeper into understanding the disease's complexities and develop more targeted therapies and treatments. Find out more about how you and your team can help fundraise for Sarcoma UK here.

3.Organise events

Host fundraising events, awareness activities and virtual gatherings to raise funds for and increase education around sarcoma. These events can be powerful platforms for sharing stories and experiences - as well as providing an opportunity for patients to meet/support one another.
